A fairy is a type of mythical being or legendary creature found in the folklore of multiple cultures.
Myths and stories about fairies come from a collection of folk beliefs from disparate sources.
The fairy label has applied only to specific small magical creatures with human appearance. They can also have magical powers and a tricky nature.
One can ward off fairies using protective charms. Common examples include church bells, wearing clothing inside out, four-leaf clover, and food. Fairies were also sometimes thought to haunt specific locations, and to lead travelers astray using will-o’-the-wisps. In Ireland, Fairy forts are not to disturbed. Local tales tell of disaster befalling individuals and family members of those who disturb these rings of trees.
In addition, fairies were especially popular in the United Kingdom during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. The Fairy at the bottom of the garden was a popular image and story at that time.
