The fairy label has applied only to specific small magical creatures with human appearance. They can also have magical powers and a tricky nature.

Local tales tell of disaster befalling individuals and family members of those who disturb these rings of trees.
In addition, fairies were especially popular in the United Kingdom during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. The Fairy at the bottom of the garden was a popular image and story at that time.
