Benzoin Resin Incense
Benzoin Resin Incense has a sweet vanilla-like aroma. Catholic Churches use gum benzoin as a major component of the type of church incense. In addition Orthodox Christian churches use it in Russia and some other countries. Incense users use it in the Arab states of the Persian Gulf and India, where they burn it on charcoal as. Also used in the production of Bakhoor (scented wood chips) as well as various mixed resin incense in the Arab countries and the Horn of Africa. Manufacturers of Japanese, Indian and Chinese incense also use bezoin.
Use this resin in charcoal burners and on incense burner sieves. Using a metal spoon, add a very small amount of resin on top of the hot charcoal releasing the fragrant incense smoke. Repeat as desired until the charcoal is exhausted. When finished, allow the charcoal to completely cool in the burner before discarding. When in doubt, dowse it with water.
